Recap: DeLand-Weldon Eagles vs. Hartsburg-Emden Stags
This season hasn't been kind to the DeLand-Weldon Eagles, who are still winless after their 13th matchup. They suffered a rough 50-25 defeat at the hands of Hartsburg-Emden on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat DeLand-Weldon has suffered since December 4, 2023.
Hartsburg-Emden's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Cross, who scored 18 points along with five steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Cross has scored at least a third of Hartsburg-Emden's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Swinford, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
DeLand-Weldon's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.8 points per game. As for Hartsburg-Emden, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DeLand-Weldon will face off against Arthur-Okaw Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hartsburg-Emden, they will head out on the road to square off against Edinburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
