The St. Thomas More Cavaliers are taking a road trip to square off against the Marquette University Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Thomas More knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Marquette University likes a good challenge.
St. Thomas More is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Greenfield 18-0 on Saturday. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Gabe Schmidt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Carson Weist was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Alivo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
St. Thomas More always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .529 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Marquette University came up short against Brookfield East on Friday, falling 7-1.
St. Thomas More has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Marquette University, they dropped their record down to 8-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
St. Thomas More was able to grind out a solid win over Marquette University when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
