Basketball Preview: Monroe Vikings vs. University Wildcats
Two dominant guards in Vincent Rosales and Kahmron Hill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After both having extra time off, the Monroe Vikings and the University Wildcats will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Monroe is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 67 points on December 11th, they were much more limited against Arleta two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 62-29 loss at the hands of the Mustangs. The match marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Meanwhile, University fought the good fight in their overtime game against Robert F. Kennedy Community two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 68-66.
Monroe will need focus on slowing down Orpheu Cummings, one of several University players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Cummings is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for five straight games. Jonah Hansen was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.
Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for University, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
Monroe took a serious blow against University in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 60-21.
