Baseball Game Preview: Nelson County Governors vs. Dan River Wildcats

Nelson County hasn't had much luck against Dan River recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Governors will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Nelson County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Nelson County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Appomattox County on Friday. They fell 5-2 to the Raiders.

Nelson County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was George Knight, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Dan River was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Gretna. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Dan River is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nelson County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Nelson County couldn't quite get it done against Dan River in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Governors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
