Baseball Recap: Edgewood Has No Trouble Against Barr-Reeve

Edgewood's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Barr-Reeve Vikings. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 13-1 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Anthony Shields made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Edgewood's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Shields was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Lawson, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Edgewood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-5 otherwise. Will Inman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Edgewood's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Barr-Reeve, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-3.

Edgewood wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-7 loss against North Posey on the 10th. As for Barr-Reeve, they have also already played their next contest, an 8-4 defeat against Jasper on the 10th.
