Baseball Recap: Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Barberton Magics
Roosevelt had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-6 to make it 15. They fell just short of the Barberton Magics by a score of 6-4. The Rough Riders were not able to make up for their loss to the Magics from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
John Estep was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Alex Geist also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for Barberton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
On Barberton's side, Cole Macko made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Macko has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Javon Clayton, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
