Basketball Recap: Springfield Snags Ninth Win in Last Ten Games

If Cheraw wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Springfield, they should've done a better job of containing Cobi Mackey. The Springfield Longhorns walked away with a 50-40 win over the Cheraw Wolverines on Tuesday thanks in part to Mackey, who went 10-for-24 to rack up 23 points and seven steals. Springfield is 12-1 when Mackey posts five or more steals, but 2-3 otherwise.

Tatiana Sandoval was another key player, putting up eight points. Thanks to that strong game, she now owns an excellent 50% shooting accuracy.

Cheraw's loss came despite strong showings from Kieran Harris and Braislea Groves. Harris almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, while Groves posted seven points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Groves a new career-high in boards.

Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. Cheraw's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-6.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-23 victory against Cotopaxi on the 21st. As for Cheraw, they have also already played their next contest, a 36-33 win against Holly on the 20th.
