Softball Game Preview: Blue Earth Buccaneers vs. Fairmont Cardinals

Blue Earth is 2-8 against Fairmont since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will challenge the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Blue Earth has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Blue Earth is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Monday. They lost 12-0 to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Fairmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Tri-City United [Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center]. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Brylee Miller made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Makenzie Lowry was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Fairmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Blue Earth's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15-1. As for Fairmont, their record now sits at 10-4.

Blue Earth might still be hurting after the 27-2 loss they got from Fairmont when the teams last played back in April. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
