Basketball Recap: Lake Lure Classical Academy Takes a Loss

Lake Lure Classical Academy won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were outmatched by the Landrum Cardinals and fell 104-45. While losing is never fun, the Raptors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 450th in North Carolina, while the Cardinals are ranked 101st in South Carolina).

When it comes to explaining why Lake Lure Classical Academy lost, don't look at D Watkins. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points. Watkins has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nixon Vivolo, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Landrum's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Benett Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 assists. With that strong performance, Edwards is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Lindsey, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points and six boards.
