Basketball Recap: Heidy Perez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cross Keys over Walker

Cross Keys lost against Walker back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cross Keys Phoenix took a hard 45-28 fall against the Walker Wolverines. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cross Keys' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Heidy Perez, who posted 11 points. The dominant performance gave Perez a new career-high in points. Marta Reyes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Walker found their leader in sophomore Jada Johnson, who put up 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Johnson. Another player making a difference was Ava Sanderson, who had nine points.

Cross Keys now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Walker, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5.

Cross Keys will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Howard at 5:30 p.m. on January 14th. As for Walker, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-12 defeat against Wesleyan on the 4th.
