Softball Game Preview: Sequoyah Chiefs vs. South-Doyle Cherokees

For the first time this season, Sequoyah will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will head out on the road to square off against the South-Doyle Cherokees at 6:00 p.m. Sequoyah will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Last Monday, Sequoyah beat Rhea County 11-7.

The team relied heavily on TeAsya Cozart, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Hall, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Cozart wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Sequoyah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, South-Doyle lost 10-2 to Tennessee on Tuesday. The Cherokees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sequoyah pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for South-Doyle, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

South-Doyle's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Sequoyah has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for South-Doyle, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Sequoyah keep running through batters, or will South-Doyle buck the trend?

Sequoyah beat South-Doyle 8-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sequoyah since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
