Volleyball Recap: Jefferson Cougars vs. Musselman Applemen
Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Musselman Applemen. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Applemen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in August.
Jefferson started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-7, 25-14, 25-16.
Sarah Diaz paced Jefferson's offense, picking up eight kills. Diaz were helped by Liv Mercer and Aven Thorn, who contributed seven assists each.
Musselman was led to victory by Alycia Miller and Reese Troxler. Miller had 28 digs and two assists, while Troxler had 14 digs. That's the most digs Miller has posted since back in August.
Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1. As for Musselman, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 1-1 tie against West Potomac on the 27th. As for Musselman, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Martinsburg on the 30th.
