Soccer Game Preview: Northeastern vs. Washington

Northeastern is 0-8-1 against Washington since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Eagles will host the Pam Pack at 4:00 p.m. Northeastern has given up an average of 4.4 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Northeastern is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They lost 9-0 to Manteo. While losing is never fun, Northeastern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Manteo are ranked 108th).

Meanwhile, Washington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Cougars as they made off with an 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for Washington, who have now won nine games by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting SouthWest Edgecombe from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Avery Thomas led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Washington's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for Northeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11-1.
