Softball Game Preview: Chaffey Tigers vs. Don Lugo Conquistadores

Chaffey hasn't had much luck against Don Lugo recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chaffey Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Don Lugo Conquistadores at 3:30 p.m. Chaffey's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Don Lugo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Chaffey had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Garey on Friday. Chaffey was the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Garey. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

The team relied heavily on Gabriela Lomeli, who went 3-for-5 with eight RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaiza Lopez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Don Lugo didn't have quite enough to beat Los Osos on Saturday and fell 3-2.

Hayden Pitsenberger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Leylah Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Don Lugo's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Chaffey, their win bumped their record up to 3-0-1.

Both Chaffey and Don Lugo just can't seem to miss. Chaffey has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Don Lugo struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Chaffey came up short against Don Lugo in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can Chaffey avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
