Baseball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Torrance Tartars

The Great Oak Wolfpack will challenge the Torrance Tartars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Great Oak has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 17.

Last Wednesday, Great Oak didn't have quite enough to beat Centennial and fell 6-4.

Roy Kim was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.

At the plate, Great Oak saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Washizaki, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Washizaki also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Torrance's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Redondo Union by a score of 5-4.

Mateo Rickman was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jay Flores, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Great Oak's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Torrance, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Great Oak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Torrance struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts.
