Preview: Monroe Vikings vs. Arleta Mustangs
Monroe is 0-7 against Arleta since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Monroe Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Arleta Mustangs at 3:30 p.m.
Monroe fell victim to Verdugo Hills' stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They received a tough blow as they fell 19-0 to the Dons.
Meanwhile, Arleta had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Everything went their way against North Hollywood as Arleta made off with a 41-15 win. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Arleta's ten-point performance the matchup before.
Arleta can attribute much of their success to Xavier Vega, who rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Vega really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run. Jose Rosas made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Arleta, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Monroe came up short against Arleta when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 13-3. Can Monroe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
