The Arapahoe Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Eaglecrest Raptors at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Arapahoe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Arapahoe is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Cherry Creek, who was ranked second at the time (Arapahoe was ranked 23rd). The Warriors came up short against the Bruins on Saturday, falling 12-1. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Arapahoe saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Dollaghan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Eaglecrest hadn't done well against Mullen recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Raptors never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The game was the first time the Raptors have beaten the Mustangs on their field since May 5, 2022.
Cosme Vera tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Braden Elliott was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Eaglecrest: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Landen Holmes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Eaglecrest is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Arapahoe, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Arapahoe hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Eaglecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Arapahoe couldn't quite get it done against Eaglecrest when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
