Baseball Recap: Antioch Beats Richmond-Burton for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Antioch made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Richmond-Burton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Sequoits never let the Rockets get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Tuesday. Nine seems to be a good number for the Sequoits as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Carson Young tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nathan Yeager and Zach Rubin did most of the damage at the plate: Yeager scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Rubin scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Yeager has become a key player for Antioch: the team is 2-0-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise. Evan Schmidt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Antioch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Antioch's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Richmond-Burton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Antioch will square off against Zion-Benton at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Sequoits are facing the Zee-Bees at the right time seeing as the Zee-Bees are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Richmond-Burton, they will face off against Marian Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
