Soccer Recap: Seventy-First Comes Up Short

Seventy-First was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Douglas Byrd Eagles. The matchup was a 1-1 toss-up at halftime, but Seventy-First couldn't quite close it out.

Laylah Waters wasn't going to let Douglas Byrd walk away unscathed as she scored both of Seventy-First's goals, bringing her season total up to three goals.

Seventy-First's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Douglas Byrd, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12.

Looking ahead, Seventy-First will host Whiteville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Seventy-First will be up against Whiteville's rather soft defense (which has allowed 4.07 goals per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Douglas Byrd, they will venture away from home to face off against Lumberton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
