Baseball Recap: Mariner Takes a Loss

After flying high against Riverdale on Tuesday, Mariner came back down to earth. The Tritons fell just short of the Gulf Coast Sharks by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Tritons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sharks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Xavier Muentes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Morgan Waltz was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Mariner's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mariner is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Sarasota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gulf Coast, they will square off against Archbishop McCarthy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
