Basketball Game Preview: Reeves Raiders vs. Sam Houston Broncos

The Reeves Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Sam Houston Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Reeves' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 19 matches.

Last Tuesday, Reeves ended up a good deal behind Lacassine and lost 94-78. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Cardinals are ranked 23rd).

Reeves' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Guillory, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, and Christian Williams, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points and five assists. What's more, Guillory also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Drew Guillory was another key player, putting up 14 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sam Houston). They blew past LaGrange 82-38 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Broncos have posted since January 2, 2024.

Sam Houston moved to 15-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Reeves, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-10 record this season.

Reeves lost to Sam Houston on the road by a decisive 66-48 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Reeves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
