Softball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

Lakewood extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-4. They came up short against the Wilson Tigers, falling 8-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Gators of the 14-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Wilson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season.

For Wilson's part, Lauren Sehnke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Sehnke a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Zoey Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Miller is crushing it when it comes to home runs: she's launched at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Martina Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will challenge Manning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wilson, they will square off against Hartsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Foxes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
