Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Proviso East's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

There's no place like home for Proviso East, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against the Willowbrook Warriors on Tuesday as the Proviso East Pirates made off with a 74-50 victory. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Warriors are ranked 436th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Proviso East had a senior duo take command as Isaiah Pickens posted 21 points and Jerry Johnson dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Pickens' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jarret Swift, who put up eight points along with five assists and five boards.

Proviso East is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Willowbrook, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Proviso East will square off against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Willowbrook has already played their next match (against Leyden), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
