Softball Preview: New Deal Lions vs. Olton Mustangs
For the second straight game, New Deal will face off against Olton. The Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. New Deal is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
New Deal's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over Olton. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lions needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Niassa Saldana made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Saldana was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, New Deal got a massive performance out of Cheyenne Casarez, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave Casarez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Martinez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
New Deal's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10. As for Olton, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
