Connally (Waco, Texas) grabbed the lead when
Kristian Brown ran for a touchdown with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Lorena (Texas) 29-19 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured four lead swaps.
After taking the lead on a
Harris Coleman touchdown run, the Leopards went into halftime with a 19-14 lead. The Cadets took the lead for good with a Brown touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Connally still trailed by 5 points going into the fourth quarter. But 15 points in the fourth helped CHS pull out the victory.
Coleman made a difference for Lorena. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown, ran for one touchdown and kicked one extra point. His performance brought his touchdown total to 12 on the year.
The Waco school's most effective player was Brown. The sophomore quarterback ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Cadets got revenge for last year's 35-26 loss to LHS with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Lorena, which notched a 22-20 victory over Groesbeck in its previous outing. With the win Connally extended its winning streak to three games.
Lorena (4-2) will play a 3A Region III District 17 game against La Vega next week, while Connally (4-2) will take on Robinson also in a 3A Region III District 17 game.
