Basketball Preview: Seymour Eagles vs. Pigeon Forge Tigers

Seymour has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Pigeon Forge Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Seymour pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Northview Academy. While losing is never fun, Seymour can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while the Cougars are ranked 134th).

The losing side was boosted by Cameron Soulages, who scored 31 points along with two steals. That was a full 54.4% of Seymour's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Balyn Wolfe, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Pigeon Forge's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in January after their sixth straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 75-57 to Oneida. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Seymour has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season. As for Pigeon Forge, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Seymour was able to grind out a solid win over the Tigers in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 77-69. Will Seymour repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
