Softball Recap: Johnsburg Extends Winning Streak to Two

Johnsburg took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Richmond-Burton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Skyhawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockets a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Skyhawks have beaten the Rockets on their field since May 24, 2021.

The result came thanks to Joree Tibbs's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Johnsburg's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Riener, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Kimmy Whitlock also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Johnsburg and bumps their season record up to 2-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Richmond-Burton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Johnsburg is set to challenge their familiar foe Sandwich at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for the Skyhawks: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Indians have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. Meanwhile, Richmond-Burton will face off against rival Harvard at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
