Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Takes Down Davie in a Playoff Battle

South Mecklenburg extended their postseason success on Friday against Davie. They snuck past the Davie War Eagles with a 64-58 win. Winning may never get old, but the Sabres sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

South Mecklenburg was led to victory by Nykira Arrington and Chloe Grant. Arrington dropped a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds, while Grant dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. Arrington continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kate Kendrick was another key player, going 5-for-9 en route to 8 points.

South Mecklenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Davie saw an underclassman step up: freshman Olivia Smith posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Shore, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

South Mecklenburg pushed their record up to 25-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points over those games. As for Davie, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-8.

South Mecklenburg has already played their next game, a 53-27 loss against McDowell on the 4th. Davie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
