Basketball Recap: Palmdale Takes a Loss

Palmdale came up into this matchup off a tough 39-point loss back in December of 2024. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the California City Ravens by a score of 49-47 on Friday. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Ravens apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

California City found their leader in sophomore Avery 'Skywalker' Spears, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 boards. Spears has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last ten times he's played. Cassius 'Hollywood' Brown was another key player, putting up 15 points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Palmdale has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points per game. As for California City, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-6.

Palmdale and Birmingham will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for California City, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the California City Ravens take on the Frazier Mountain Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. California City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.6 points per game this season.
