Recap: Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers vs. Providence Pioneers

If the Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers were feeling good off their 57-30 takedown of the Clarksville Generals last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Shawe Memorial fell 49-36 to Providence on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Shawe Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Providence is ranked 99th).

Providence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Smith, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Smith, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five assists.

Shawe Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Providence, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Shawe Memorial will head out on the road to square off against Rising Sun at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rising Sun is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Providence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Floyd Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
