Hoover has gone 9-1 against Nicholas County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. Hoover will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Hoover is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Nitro get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won six in a row.
Jayley Carper was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Ayva Veltri was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Hoover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Nicholas County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Braxton County on Wednesday. The Grizzlies put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 17-0 victory. With that win, the Grizzlies brought their scoring average up to 8.8 runs per game.
Abby Hilleary made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Truman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Hanshaw, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
The victory got Nicholas County back to even at 2-2. As for Hoover, their record now sits at 8-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hoover hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Nicholas County struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hoover was able to grind out a solid win over Nicholas County in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
