Baseball Recap: Moore Catholic Extends Winning Streak to Three

Moore Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Sunday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Cardinal Spellman Pilots by a score of 6-3. The Mavericks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pilots, too.

NICHOLAS NEVILLE tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Moore Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was CAESER FIGUEROA, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave FIGUEROA a new career-high. Another was ANTHONY DIGEROLAMO, who scored a run and stole three bases.

Moore Catholic pushed their record up to 6-5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Spellman, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moore Catholic will face off against Xavier at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cardinal Spellman, they will head out to face off against St. Raymond Boys at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
