Baseball Recap: West Point Takes a Loss

West Point extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the Surry County Cougars, falling 12-3. The Pointers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2021.

West Point saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kekoah Ferguson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Surry County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On Surry County's side, Dawson Keckler was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Keckler has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Bradley Boller also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Coming up, West Point will welcome King & Queen Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royal Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Pointers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Surry County, they will head out to face off against Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dukes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.88 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
