Panama came tearing into Friday's contest with 16 straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 44-39 W against the Ellicottville Eagles. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Blake Smith, who went 8-for-14 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was AJ Myers, who posted eight points and five boards.

Panama's win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Panama will host Maple Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ellicottville, they will square off against Frewsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
