Basketball Recap: Papillion-LaVista South Comes Up Short

If Papillion-LaVista South was feeling good fresh off their 69-45 takedown of Lincoln Northeast last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Papillion-LaVista South Titans had to suffer through a 65-37 loss at the hands of the Millard West Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Wildcats are ranked second).

Despite the defeat, Papillion-LaVista South saw an underclassman step up: freshman Maizey Macke went 6-for-12 en route to 16 points and four steals. Macke continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Medeck, who posted six points and seven boards.

Neleigh Gessert continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Millard West, going 6-for-15 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Gessert is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Kylee Paben was another key player, going 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points and seven boards.

Papillion-LaVista South has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Millard West, the win (which was their 20th in a row) raised their record to 22-1.

Looking ahead, Papillion-LaVista South will take on Gretna at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Millard West, they will square off against Lincoln Southeast at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Millard West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season.
