Soccer Game Preview: Freeman Academy vs. Vermillion

Freeman Academy is 0-10 against Vermillion since August of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Bobcats will head out on the road to challenge the Tanagers at 4:00 p.m. Freeman Academy's last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Last Tuesday, Freeman Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Southwest Minnesota Christian and fell 2-1. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Freeman Academy came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 14th in South Dakota, while Southwest Minnesota Christian are ranked 84th in Minnesota).

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last contest, Vermillion made sure to put some goals up on the board against Dakota Valley on Thursday. They blew past the Panthers 8-1. The result was nothing new for Vermillion, who have now won four matches by four goals or more so far this season.

Vermillion is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those six contests. As for Freeman Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2-2.

Freeman Academy suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Vermillion in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
