High school boys basketball: California Top 25 team rankings

By Mitch Stephens Jun 10, 2021, 4:00pm

Two-time defending state Open Division champion Sierra Canyon remains on top despite depleted roster.

The Southern Section crowned nine boys basketball champions on Wednesday, but all eyes will be at Sierra Canyon on Friday when two of the state's top three ranked teams face off.

The No. 1 Trailblazers (15-0) host No. 3 Centennial (20-2) for the Southern Section Open Division championship. Other sections playing for championships either Friday or Saturday: San Diego, Los Angeles City, Central and Central Coast.

Serra Canyon has gone undefeated despite losing four players who were expected to be big contributors down the stretch. That included Bronny James, a nationally-rated sophomore guard and son of LeBron James, who injured his knee before the season and hasn't played.

Four-star guard Chance Westry, a Pennsylvania native returned returning home last month due to personal reasons. Junior guard and UCLA commit Amari Bailey has largely carried the Trailblazers, averaging better than 28 points per game.
