Softball Game Preview: Central Spartans vs. Brawley Wildcats

Central hasn't had much luck against Brawley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Spartans will challenge the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m.

Central is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 12-2 to Brawley.

For Brawley's part, Daniella Yescas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Yescas has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Demi Cornejo and Isabella Yescas did most of the damage at the plate: Cornejo went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Isabella scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Yescas posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kaitlyn Castro was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Brawley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Central now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Brawley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
