Softball Recap: Woodward Academy Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Woodward Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Arabia Mountain Rams on Thursday as they made off with a 14-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the War Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Cymone Woodfaulk made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Weeks was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August of 2024. Claire Cavanaugh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Woodward Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Woodward Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Arabia Mountain, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodward Academy will welcome Lakeside at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The War Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Arabia Mountain, they will face off against M.L. King at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.38 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
