Baseball Game Preview: Hershey Trojans vs. Elizabethtown Bears

The Hershey Trojans will face off against the Elizabethtown Bears at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hershey will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Central Dauphin East on Thursday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.

Sean Callahan was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Grant Later was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Bryce Erwin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Hershey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Elizabethtown, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Warwick on Wednesday as they made off with an 8-1 win.

Elizabethtown's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Hershey, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Hershey came out on top in a nail-biter against Elizabethtown in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
