Softball Preview: Crab Orchard Trojans vs. Salem Wildcats

The Crab Orchard Trojans will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Salem Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Crab Orchard will head into Saturday's match ready to turn things around: they lost a close one when they played on Friday but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They lost 13-7 to Johnston City. Crab Orchard has not had much luck with Johnston City recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Kayden Glover was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelsi Miskelley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Salem had to settle for a 4-3 defeat against Wesclin on Saturday.

Breanna Thurman put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Thurman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances. Thurman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Olivia Paulson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Even though they lost, Salem didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wesclin only tossed five.

Crab Orchard's record now sits at 18-10. As for Salem, their record now sits at 21-7.
