Baseball Preview: Keystone Wildcats vs. Midview Middies
The Keystone Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Midview Middies at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keystone will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
While Keystone didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Wellington 10-3 on Thursday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Midview let Elyria Catholic stack four runs on them in the fourth inning on Thursday but luckily Midview prevailed anyway. The Middies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Panthers. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Middies as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Cody Martin tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chase Harper, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Scott, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Keystone pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Midview, their record now sits at 3-10.
