Soccer Game Preview: West Springfield vs. South County

The West Springfield Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the South County Stallions at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

West Springfield is headed into Friday's match hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Westfield.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, South County was not quite McLean's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They lost 7-1 to the Highlanders. While losing is never fun, South County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 135th, while McLean are ranked 33rd).

West Springfield suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 7-3. As for South County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5-2 record this season.
