Football Recap: John Milledge Academy Takes Down Piedmont Academy in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, John Milledge Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Piedmont Academy Cougars, posting a 56-0 victory. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

John Milledge Academy found their leader in sophomore Javaris Hurt, who rushed for 156 yards and two scores on only 12 carries. Those 156 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Hurt. Asa Wall was in the mix too, providing John Milledge Academy with two touchdowns.

John Milledge Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 313 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August.

John Milledge Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Lane Rhodes. Amarion Shivers was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making three total tackles.

The win (which was John Milledge Academy's seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.9 points over those games. As for Piedmont Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, John Milledge Academy will square off against Frederica Academy on Friday. Piedmont Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
