Basketball Game Preview: Grassfield Grizzlies vs. Lakeland Cavaliers

Having just played yesterday, the Grassfield Grizzlies will get right back to it and host the Lakeland Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grassfield has three straight wins, Lakeland has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Monday, Grassfield blew past Oscar Smith, posting a 70-30 victory. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 24 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lakeland came up short against Great Bridge on Friday and fell 63-51.

Grassfield will have to keep a close watch on Janae Carter and Aubrianna Paiz, a pair of players who had a big impact on Lakeland's prior game. Carter posted 19 points and six steals, while Paiz put up 13 points along with five steals and three blocks. That was a full 37.3% of Lakeland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alainah Overton, who scored 12 points.

Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Grassfield, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.

Everything came up roses for Grassfield against Lakeland in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 68-39 victory. Will Grassfield repeat their success, or does Lakeland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
