Baseball Recap: Jackson Academy Takes a Loss

Jackson Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Southern Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 15-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (11), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Willie Dixon and Jacob Criswell did some serious damage despite the final result: Dixon scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Criswell scored three runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Dixon is becoming a predictor of Jackson Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hillman, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Jackson Academy dropped their record down to 6-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Southern Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Coming up, Jackson Academy will look to defend their home field on Monday against Escambia Academy at 7:00 p.m. Escambia Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.77 runs per game on average), something Jackson Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southern Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Patrician Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
