Baseball Game Preview: McGuffey Highlanders vs. Charleroi Cougars

The McGuffey Highlanders will take on the Charleroi Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Last Thursday, McGuffey had just enough and edged out Fort Cherry 10-9. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Highlanders.

The team relied heavily on Austin Johnson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Hildreth, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Charleroi entered their tilt with Seton LaSalle on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Rebels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since April 26, 2024.

Charleroi's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for McGuffey, they now have a winning record of 4-3-1.
