Basketball Recap: University Wins High-Profile Match Against Lower Richland

University is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Lower Richland. The University Hawks managed a 61-55 victory over the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.

University's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bri Fox, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 17 points. Fox's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Julia Maisel was another key player, putting up 12 points.

When it comes to explaining why Lower Richland lost, don't look at Jhnai Sumter. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Sumter has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Foster, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

University now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lower Richland, they moved to 9-1 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

University didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-41 defeat against Andrew Jackson on the 23rd. As for Lower Richland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-53 win against Northridge on the 22nd.
