Softball Game Preview: Sudan Hornets vs. Hale Center Owls

For the second straight game, Sudan will face off against Hale Center. Sudan will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Hale Center at 11:00 a.m. Sudan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Sudan managed to slip by Hale Center the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Sudan came up short against Hale Center on Tuesday, falling 9-3. The Hornets' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Hale Center's part, Miella Anguiano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave Anguiano a new career-high.

At the plate, Alyssa Borunda was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Avelynn Trevino, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Hale Center always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Hale Center pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sudan, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-8-1.
