Baseball Recap: Giles Wins Going Away Against George Wythe

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fort Chiswell, Giles was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They blew past the George Wythe Maroons 15-3. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Brady Thwaites made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Giles let Josiah Schlueter and Miles Eppling run wild. Schlueter went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Eppling went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Schlueter has become a key player for Giles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Moye, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Giles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as George Wythe only posted a batting average of .238.

Giles' record is now 6-12-1. As for George Wythe, they dropped their record down to 4-11-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

As of now, neither Giles nor the Maroons have any future games scheduled.
